COLD WAR COMMANDER

20mm plastic wargame project with imaginary countries

This is my latest sideshow, a campaign between fictional mid 20th century countries using Cold War Commander in vaguely HO/OO scale. In a sense it is the rebirth of a brief dalliance with AK47 that my friend Jerry and I indulged in 5 or more  years ago. The project serves three ways for me, it fulfills a periodic desire to play with tanks or "armymen" as in my childhood (please note the very vintage matchbox Saracen acting as a R1 Roscian command vehicle), it scratches the itch to paint up some 20mm plastic figures, and it provides opposition to my friend Jerry's Centralian army as well as the Naryatrian forces I originally created for AK47.

BATTLE OF BALIMONT

The Roscian army saw action for the first time at the Battle of Balimont on 13 June 2009 where they repulsed overwhelming Centralian forces in a fierce 6 hour battle. Reporters have been unable to confirm
reports that dozens of enemy tanks were destroyed  and several enemy aircraft shot down but the burnt out wrecks of 3 APC's were still there to be seen. The Order of Rosc has been issued to the
Recoilless Rifle Platoon of the 1st Balimont Rifles.  Thanks to our intrepid war correspondent, Lawrence, for the pictures of the battle. (click on them for a closer look (well for most of them))

There they are!

The enemy! Hordes of Centralian tanks and infantry.

The attack goes in. The plain brown patches are marked minefields several of which were fakes.

The highwater mark of the Centralian attack at the end of Turn 8.

643 Attack Squadron almost finds the target. (seconds later the center of the Roscian position was shot up and an M4 Sherman platoon destroyed, 643 squadron claims it was due to a command blunder but the troops on the ground swear it was 643 squadron shooting at the only target they could find.)

.Another shot of the final turn. White caps are units that used opportunity fire or initiative, red are hits, yellow markers are suppression.
