Greek & Persian Wars

25mm wargame collection
This army began life in 1975 as a group of mercenary Skythian archers for my Valdurian army. 37 years later those archers are still fighting for me, but under the banner of the Persian Great King. The figures are an eclectic mix but are largely Garrison, Benassi and converted RAFM, with a leavening of Rose, Ral Partha, converted Minifigs and 1 lone Hinchcliffe . I am in the midst of reorganizing and rebasing as they slowly go from a Late Satrapal army to earlier one so if you look closely, you may see some odd figures and a few unflocked bases. This is no parade square army!
The game below was a 3,500 points a side Warhammer Ancient Battles encounter fought between Jerry Legge and myself. The game opened with my massed archery fire driving away the enemy skirmishers. On my right, my Armenian Noble Levy overran his mercenary Celts. In the center, his heavy troops closed and the battle was close fought for a few turns and victory hung in the balance. My Greek allies held his pikemen for just long enough for my Persian infantry to flank his phalanx and then the opposing line collapsed.
