The Blue Army.
There are 4 main sections to the Blue Army: the Guard of the Republic more commonly known as The Blue Guard, the Regular Army, the Volunteers and the Militia. The guard is stationed in the capital. It is rare these days for the entire guard to take the field but the Guard Jaegers have been active in recent campaigns. The regular army is itself divided between the Field Force stationed on the frontiers of the republic and maintained at war establishment and the Reserve Force which consists of little more than cadres used as garrisons in major forts and cities and as drill instructors for the Volunteers. In theory they can be expanded to full strength in time of war but so far no war has lasted long enough. Volunteer units have been formed throughout the republic. In peacetime these tend to be small cadres which drill and provide aid to the civil powers as well as a ceremonial presence for local events. The militia is only called out as a last resort. All able bodied men are liable for service in emergency but the normal requirement is for every 5 households to supply 1 armed infantry man when the alarm is raised.

Guard Jaeger. Spiked leather helmet, dark blue tunic, light blue
trousers, worn tucked into tall boots on campaign. Initially the Jaegers were envisaged as providing rifle armed skirmishers for the guard but in practice are used as shock troops since the volunteers provide more than enough light infantry. It is usual for guardsmen to serve at least 1 campaign in the field before transferring to the Grenadiers. Since teh Jaegers are the only guard unit to see action on a regular basis, there is much demand to serve in its ranks, especially for the sons of the wealthy. |
