CASTLE DANGEROUS

20 May 2007

54mm Medieval Wargames

This project has its roots in the castle my brother had when I was young back in the late 1950's. Yes that's right, it took a while but ITS MINE NOW! I'll add shots later but that old castle with its garrison of Crescent 56mm knights reinforced by my Marx and his Herald Robin Hood figures is the core of this project. Various plastic and metal figures have been added including some Prince August molds. Its a pretty ramshackle collection at the moment but the idea is to be able to play 14th/15thC Anglo-Scottish skirmishes. Of course the troops will be able to double for the 100 Years War and early Wars of the Roses. The rules were written by Rob Dean and myself for a 100 Year's War game. It won't take much to adapt them for the Anglo-Scots wars. For more on the rules check out Battlegames Issue 6.

Here are some shots of a castle sortie game Rob & I staged at Cold Wars 2007. The majority of the figures are his but there are a score of my lads in there as well (eg the cattle and escort)

Sortie!
Somewhere in France English Men-At-Arms and Archers sortie to destroy a French Bombard and Seige Tower.

Meanwhile.....another force of English approach with beef on the hoof for the hungry garrison. They just need to make it over the river and through the entire French camp!

So close and yet so far away!

OK this shot is from a WAB viking game at Tom Nolan's place in 2006 but one day I may have a castle like that!

Yes there is more of Hollywood than History in the Highlanders converted from Marx vikings but sometimes you just have to know when to let go!

More pictures to come. Probably in the fall of 2007.
